Terms of use
Last updated: 6 September 2026
These terms cover your use of the Mela app, published by CB Scala, Malta. Using the app means you accept them.
What Mela is
A flashcard app for learning Maltese vocabulary. It runs on your device and works offline. It is a study aid, not a course, a qualification, or a substitute for a teacher. There is no web version.
Your account
There isn’t one. Mela has no sign-in and stores no personal information — see the privacy policy.
What it costs
Pack one is free forever. No trial period, no card limit, no advertising and no expiry.
Every other pack can be bought outright, and it stays yours. Alternatively a subscription unlocks every pack for as long as it is active.
- The price is the one shown in the App Store or Google Play before you confirm, in your own currency. We do not quote prices anywhere else, because they differ by country and change; the store is the only place that knows what you will actually be charged.
- Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google. We never receive your payment details.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it. Cancel any time in your App Store or Google Play settings — we cannot cancel it for you. Cancelling stops the next renewal and keeps your access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- If a subscription ends, packs you bought outright stay yours. Packs that only the subscription opened close again.
- Refunds are granted by Apple or Google under their own policies, so a refund request goes to the store you bought from. We cannot issue one ourselves, but we will gladly help you word the request.
- Restore purchases in the Me tab recovers anything you have bought on the same store account, including on a new device. Because Mela has no account, this is the only way purchases move between devices.
The content
The Maltese words, phrases, pronunciation guides, audio, artwork and the app itself belong to us. You may use them to learn. You may not copy, republish, resell or redistribute the content, or use it to build a competing product. Personal study, including your own notes and screenshots, is fine.
The Maltese is written and reviewed with native speakers, but a language is bigger than a flashcard: regional usage varies and mistakes are possible. We do not warrant that every entry is free of error. If you spot one, tell us — see below — and the correction ships in an update.
Your progress
Your study history lives on your device. We cannot recover it: not if you delete the app, not if you lose the phone, not if you ask. That is the direct cost of having no account, and we would rather say so here than surprise you later. Purchases are recoverable; progress is not.
Fair use
Don’t try to break the app, work around payment, extract the content in bulk, or reverse-engineer it beyond what the law allows you to do regardless of these terms.
Availability
We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of Mela. If we discontinue it entirely, packs already installed on your device keep working as long as the app does.
Liability
Mela is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, CB Scala is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it, including lost study progress. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer under Maltese or EU law.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change we will update the date above and note it in the app’s release notes. Continuing to use the app means accepting the updated terms.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Malta.
